Tideway’s Victoria Embankment, now open

The Victorian Embankment is a historic marvel along the Thames built by Joseph Bazalgette in the 1860’s as part of the grand sewer system. In one of the shots you can see a part of the old sewer.  Victoria, or Tyburn Quay, is just one of the 22 Tideway sites providing a vital connection to the main tunnel, which thanks to the Super Sewer, Tideway are now capturing and diverting sewage from these sites to be properly treated, protecting the river and it’s wildlife. The main tunnel is 16miles long and goes from west london to Abbey Mills  and is 65 metres deep under the river. Being opposite the London Eye its a very popular area, close to Trafalgar Sq and people can sit and look out to the river. This is just one of the many Tideway sites that I have photographed in the last 7 years. ..very privileged to chart from above and below ground! #Thamestidewaytunnel. #victoriaembankment. #girldownatunnel. #construction #patriciaraynerlondonconstruction. #beautifultunnels
